Fallen trees - organic matter of the best kind

I came across a fallen tree the other day in the woods. This provides such value to the woodland and is a world of activity with microorganisms and invertebrates busily devouring and regenerating.

This is organic matter of the best kind. Contributing the humus to the O layer in the soil profile. Water into wine, the woodland is like a cathedral grander than anywhere else!
